The Jerusalem cricket is a wingless cricket. It is large for a cricket. These crickets are about 2 inches long. They have a large head and stripped abdomen on their back. They are reddish brown and are about the size of a quarter.
Jerusalem crickets like to dig into the soil. They have strong jaws that allow them to dig under rocks and soil. The spend most of their time under soil so you often have to look in soil or you can usually find them under dead wood. They live on the west part of North America.
Jerusalem crickets are primarily predatory; eating other insects, but will also feed on vegetables and root crops.
