The Lutjanus campechanus (more commonly known as the Red Snapper) is a fish found around Eastern Mexico in the Western Atlantic ocean. They are very important as commercial fish, for 3.1 million Red Snapper were sold for $10 million. They range in size from ten lbs. to 50 lbs.

The average Red Snapper tends to reach two to three feet. The Snapper’s population is at an all time low, due to over fishing of not only the Snapper but shrimp as well. Managers of the fisheries are trying to enlarge the population by catching as little as they can and still maintain business. The Red Snapper enjoys living in reefs, crevices of rocks, and in oil rigs in the ocean.
