The Hyperoodon ampullatus or commonly known as the bottlenose whale is an extraordinary animal in many different ways, here are some examples.

Some interesting facts about the Bottlenose whale is that the conservation status for the animal is LC or Least Concern, which is as high as an animal can get on the scale. Another interesting fact about the Bottlenose whale is that its dorsal fin can reach up to 30cm about 12 inches.

The Bottlenose whale has a pretty large habitat range. The habitat range for a bottlenose whale extends from the polar ice of the North Atlantic to Southwest to Long Island. The whale’s habitat is about 1000m deep. The whale forages near or at North Atlantic waters.

The Bottlenose whale has an unknown population but is likely to be around 10,000. The average bottlenose whale is about 8-10 meters or 26-33 feet in length. The weight of the average bottlenose whale is about 5,800-7,500 or 13,000-17,000 pounds.

The bottlenose whale does not have a lot of known predators, but back between 1850 and 1973 whaling was a big cause for a drop in the whale’s population status. Before the whaling for bottlenose whales, there is an estimated number of being between 40,000 and 50,000 of them of them.  Since then Norway stopped hunting this whale.

The Bottlenose whale diet consists of squid, sea cucumbers, herring, cuttlefish, and sea stars. Though the most favorite food for the whale is the squid.

As you can clearly see the Bottlenose whale is an extraordinary animal, in many different ways.
