The European Tree Frog is a very simple little animal. It maximum length when adult is about 4.5 centimeters. That’s about as big as one third of your pinky!  The European Tree Frog also known as Hyla Arborea is part of the genus Hyla.  This genus involves all different types of Common Tree Frogs.

Most Frogs live in the places in the forest were there’s lots of ponds and water but not the European Tree Frogs.  They need water of course, but they rather choose places more sunny.  For example sunny forest edges, bushy heaths, wet dune pans, wet scrublands, vineyards, and used parks and meadows. Meadows are sometimes used as for reproduction.  The places that the European Tree Frog lives in are usually full with lots of human activity. They of course, live in Europe but not in North America unless bought or in zoos.

The European Tree Frog is a much unknown animal.  Since its unknown, it’s one of those animals that are people are least concerned about around the world.  It is actually endangered in most of Western and Central Europe and nearly extinct in Belgium because of lack in breeding habits.  But other than that it is in good condition everywhere else.

The European Tree Frog is small and has a smooth skin.  The colors for the skin could be green, light grey, brown or even black.  There belly color is always white and has a stripe on its back side from its eyes to its groin.  The stripe can change color very quickly. They eat what you would think frogs eat like insects and more.  They are more active during evening and night.  The Hyla Arborea does hibernate through the months September to sometimes early May.  Reproduction or breeding season is usually from April to May and sometimes March.
