Megapodius freycinet have multiple names, Dusky megapod and Dusky Scrubfowl. M. freycinet are chicken like bird that is about 16 inches in length. M. freycinet are mound builders. They are   capable of flight but spend most of their time on the ground. They don’t incubate their eggs using body warmth, but they incubate them with natural heat.

The M. freycinet has black above it and below it with a short pointed crest. They have bare red facial skin with a dark brown and yellow bill and have dark legs. Both male and female look exactly the same.

M. freycinet population is about 100000 mature individuals and their population  is decreasing. Their conservation status is least concern. They live in north maluku and in some places in west papua.

The Dusky scrubfowl’s natural predators include large lizards, pythons and birds of prey. Also animals like wild pigs and feral dogs unearth the eggs. Humans also pose a threat in human settlements. Their diet consist of fish, insects, worms, and fruit.

M. freycinet are a very interesting birds. They build mounds for their egg. They grow to about 16 inches in length. Both male and females look very alike. they spend most of the time on the ground but are capable of flight. In the end M.freycnet are awesome to me and hopefully to you too.
