There are some interesting facts about my small praying mantis. Its scientific name is Acontista concinna and its native to Ecuador. You should read more about my animal acontista concinna.

Praying mantis live worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. There are 2,200 species in 15 families the family acontista concinna is in Acanthopidae . There is a long-standing American urban legend  that killing a praying mantis is illegal and subject to a fine.

If praying mantis doesn’t catch food on its own it will not eat any thing unless it captures it itself.Mantises have two grasping, spiked forelegs in which prey items are caught and held securely.  It avoids being eaten, they camouflage themselves and stand perfectly still. When directly threatened, many mantis species stand tall and spread their forelegs, with their wings fanning out wide.

The is an important animal because the are a unique praying mantis that no others look like it but much are simular.what stood out the most to me was that it was a small praying mantis. I think Acontista concinna is a very unique praying mantis.
