Have you ever heard or seen an armadillo? You don't here about armadillos that much. There are many different varieties of armadillos. I picked a Nine-banded armadillo to research. There are many things to learn about armdillos. First of all, did you know that the Nine-banded armadillo really like's to swim? Armadillos are really good at swimming. They can go quite a distance underwater. Armadillos have poor eyes. They detect food with their nose and ears. Armadillos have sticky tounges that they use to get their food. They have strong claws to tear open an ants nest. They are cousins to the ant eaters.
Nine-banded armadillos give birth to four identical armadillos. The armadillo is the only mammal that can do this. I think this is pretty amazing. Baby armadillos have a soft shell. And they have human like finger nails. Armidillo's usually stay in shaded places or borrow into holes. They do this to protect their soft skin. They really like humans. But if they feel threatened they will burrow into holes. They build nests with hay inside the burrow. It can be found in South-central and Southeast United States, Peru snd Uruguary. It can grow 240 - 573 mm. It weights 1 - 10 kg.
