You may think all penguins live in Antarctica.  But you're wrong.  The Fiordland Crested Penguin is one of the penguins that doesn't live in Antarctica. That's one thing that makes it special. Also, not many penguins have crests on their head.

The Eudyptes pachyrynchus, or Fiordland Crested Penguin is very different from other penguins. Its average size is about 55cm. It's black, white, has an orange beak, pink feet, red eyes, and a yellow crest. Something the penguin has to adapt to is the different predators in the area.Such as wild dogs and cats.It also has a very different behavior than other penguins. This is why the Fiordland Crested Penguin is different from other penguins.

You can only find the Fiordland Crested Penguin in one place. It lives in the north part of New Zealand. But,the Fiordland Crested Penguin has decreased its population by a lot. There is only 2,500-3,000 left. And it's been shrinking by 33% since 1980.On the ICUN status,it's considered "vulnerable"It's a good thing the penguin only lives in one place,or else it would be extinct already.

Just like any penguin,it has predators. But the Fiordland Crested Penguin has to avoid more predators than other penguins. For instance dogs, cats, gulls, ferrets, and weasels. It prevents getting eaten by other predators by being very fast and agile. But the Fiordland Crested Penguin is a predator. It eats fish, krill, and squid.Being alike to other penguins, they still have there differences.

These penguins are truly amazing. As the years go by many more die.Remember only about 2,500-3,000 Fiordland Crested Penguins are left. But some cool things about the Fiordland Crested Penguin is that it's the smallest penguin. They are also very playful.
