The Caluromys derbianus or the Derby Woolly Opossum is not like other animals, its extraordinary, small, and adorable. And here are some facts about that amazing animal.

First of all, the Derby Woolly Opossum varies in weight from 200 grams to 400 grams or 7.1 ounces to 14 ounces. The fur color depends on the geographically, but usually has a dark strip from the top of the head to the nose. Now after talking about the description im going to talk about the habitat and the range. The Woolly Opossum lives in lowland and highland in the rainforest. The maximum altitude it will live at is 2,460 meters.

Next are the feeding habits, most of them haven’t been investigated completely. But is thought to be an omnivore. Captive animals like to eat fruit, insects, and mice, but usually try to maintain a food habit of raw egg, fruit, and dog food.

Finally, there is said to be no predators recorded for the opossum. But the opossum moves throughout trees in its lifetime. When the females have babies there called “ Larvae” and the mom usually has three to six. The larvae spend two and a half months in the mothers pouch developing.

​

An exciting fact about the opossum is when it’s born its mother tests it to see if it can make it to its pouch. Also the tail is 2/3 naked. The Dolby Wooly Opossum is said to live six years in captivity but less in the wild. As a finally point, you can tell that the Caluromys derbianus is extraordinary, small, and cute.
