The kingdom is Animalia, the phylum is Cordata, the class is Mammalia, the order is Rodentia, the family is Pedetidae, the genus is Pedetes, and last the species is pedetes capensis. The springhare’s body is like a kangaroo but it has no pouch. The body length of the springhare is about 35-45 cm. The tail on the Spring Hare is very long. They are about 37-48 cm. The colors on a springhare are a tan and brown.
The springhare usually lives in sandy and dry areas. They like to live in cattle grazing areas too. They dig tunnels and live in them. They have special types of ears that keep dirt out of them when they dig. The parts of the world they are found in are East Africa, Zaire and Kenya. They are also found in South Africa.
The food the springhare likes to eat is wheat, barley and also oats. They are herbivores but also have been known to eat insects.
The predators of the springhare are humans and also lions and other carnivores. The way that the springhare evades being eaten is it hides under trees. The also hide in dead grass areas.
