The House Mouse; A very common animal that can be found in the average household. There are many exciting and wonderful facts about the house mouse. There are so many things to learn about this small creature.
The adult body length of a house mouse from nose to the base of the base of the tail is 7.5-10 centimeters which could be able to fit in your hand. Its color varies from white to grey and light brown to black. They have a light belly and short hair on their ears. The house mouse weighs from 0.4 to 0.9 ounces. They are also most likely to also leave parasites. There are many characteristics about the house mouse.
The house mouse will live either around a house, commercial studio, and agriculture lands. So in other words they will live any where near food and darkness. They build nests in hidden places. This gives them the advantage to get what they need and make a good escape.
House mice don’t usually live for a long time like other animals do. Due to the great amount of preadators the house mouse has most of them don’t even live to be one year old. It’s very sad to see that only few survive each year.
The house mouse eats plants, vegetation, and grains. Sometimes, if the house mouse has to, it will eat its own feces. Since it only eats vegetables, besides its own feces, it’s considered an omnivore. They will even get into feed for horses rip through the bag and eat the feed. They destroy more of the food than they eat by spreading their parasites into the food.
There are many preadators of the house mouse. Like humans, snakes, owls, birds, cats, coyotes, and more. The humans look upon theses creatures as pests and kill them with poison or a trap. A snake will swallow it whole. Owls and birds swoop down silently and grab them with their talons. Cats and coyotes will eat them as a snack. This is why the life span of a house mouse is very short.
Other than the amazing facts that I told you there are some more fun facts that saved for last. Like, the house mouse came from Asia then they crawled on to European boats and spread to Europe. And that the house mouse has been with Europe since the Iron Age.
