The Kinabalu giant red leech is a large bright orange-red colored leech that is found near Mount Kinabalu in Borneo, which is South East Asia. It can reach a length of over 12 inches (30 cm) in length. This is not a well-known animal, even though it was discovered back in 1897. Its scientific name is Mimobdella buettikoferi. The Kinabalu leech does not eat blood like other leeches. it will only attack and eat the Kinabalu Giant Earthworm. It lives in damp earth and leaves in cracks between the rocks. It is usually seen during or right after heavy rains. The Kinabalu Giant Red Leech can be found at 2,500-3,000 meters altitude.
