The English name (laughing Falcon) came from a loud voice it makes. It is the only member of Herptotheres. For my project I’m going to be writing about the H. cachinnans.
Talking about where it lives and what it eats. So here we go! The Laughing Falcon is 46to 56cm (18 to 22in) long, wingspan of 79 to 94cm (31 to 37in). It is a large creamy yellow or whitish head with a black coloring around is large Owl sized eyes that make a mask. The parts they found in are Latin America, Mexico, and North Argentina. Their characteristics are vocalization that resembles laughter.
The H. cachinnans lives in open forest and edges, Palm savannah. It clumps of trees around the river. Often seen near clearings and tracks. Its lives in Mexico through South America to Central America. It’s found in Amazonian, Bolivia regions. Mostly in Brazil and Northern Argentina. H. cachinnans is visible up to 1500 meters of elevations.
The role that the Laughing Falcon is Peregrine Falcon. Falcons mainly eat snakes including
venomous ones. They pounce on their prey from flight. The laughing falcon eats in
tress, and in its nest. The laughing Falcon’s predators are the spider monkey, and tayras.
What really stood out to me about my bird is that it can shout. I learned that
they live in Mexico and in South America. It can make a laughing sound. Also that this tiny bird can eat a really large snake. When eating the snake it goes tail first.
