The Eupodotis senegalensis is commonly known as the White Bellied Bustard. It is a African species of bustard.

It is rather small for a bustard 48 to 61 centimeters or 19 to 24 in long. All are tawny brown above and on the breast and white on the belly with cream-colored legs juveniles have light brown necks and heads, and adults have blue grey necks. The adult female has a grey crown, a brown and buff line below the eye, and black speckling on the throat. The adult male has a black crown, black lines on the white cheeks a black throat patch and a pinkish red bill.

The bird is found in a Sub Saharan Africa in grassland and open woodland habitats. The whole bustard habitat was extinct by the 1840’s but was brought back by a batch of chicks from Russia.  Now the exact population of the animal is unknown. Though least concern animal which means there is a large number of them. The population is slightly decreasing due to people building in the birds habitat.

The white bellied bustard eats seeds, insects and other small creatures, including frogs and beetles. They compete with many other animals for their food. Some of the predators that eat them are foxes and pigs. When the Bustard can get away it blends in with the grasses with its brown body.

That is what I learned about the White Bellied Bustard or scientifically known as the Eupodotis senegalensis it is a very interesting bird.
