The blue button jellyfish is an interesting living organism; it is part of the cnidarian phylum. This Porpita porpita is commonly known as a blue button jellyfish, but it is not a true jellyfish. This organism is rather small, it is about 1.5 inches across. This beautiful jellyfish has an interesting color, for it is pretty blue with a sandy color in the middle.

Most of these jellyfish are found in Pensacola, Florida. The blue button jellyfish commonly found in Florida seas, and they do well in Florida. Over one hundred thousand blue button jellyfish exist in the world. These jellyfish also don’t get too much bigger than 1.5 inches. Compared to other jellies it is rather small. The blue button jellyfish plays a small role in the food web, because of its size it is eaten by many predators. It competes for food with other drifters, such as other jellyfish.

I learned a lot about the blue button jellyfish. What really stood out was, when I found out that a blue button jellyfish is not a jellyfish, but a hydrozoan. I found that really hard to believe. I also never knew that this kind of jellyfish even existed.
